One

“You have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” — Louise Hay

I love this one. If negativity isn’t helping try positivity instead.

“You are not a mistake. You are not a problem to be solved. But you won’t discover this until you are willing to stop banging your head against the wall of shaming and caging and fearing yourself.” — Geneen Roth

Whether you are religious or not, I love this reminder that our bodies are not a problem to be solved, and trying to “fix” our bodies is only going to make us more miserable.

Three

"My weight? It is what it is. You could get hit by a bus tomorrow. It's about being content. And sometimes other priorities win." — Melissa McCarthy

I have found this to be so true in the past few years. Worrying about your weight and body sometimes has to take a backseat to living life.

Four

“To love yourself right now, just as you are, is to give yourself heaven. Don’t wait until you die. If you wait, you die now. If you love, you live now.” — Alan Cohen

Self-love is truly one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. For me it freed up so much mental space and helped me realize there is so much more to life than hating myself.

“To love yourself right now, just as you are, is to give yourself heaven. Don’t wait until you die. If you wait, you die now. If you love, you live now.” — Alan Cohen

The sooner we can all figure out that being ourselves is the only way to live, the better off we will all be.

“To be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.” — Thich Nhat Hanh

Six

“Since I don’t look like every other girl, it takes a while to be okay with that. To be different. But different is good.” — Serena Williams

There is a reason the line, “embrace the different” is at the top of my website. Our differences are what make us beautiful and unique. Our differences deserve to be celebrated.

“Since I don’t look like every other girl, it takes a while to be okay with that. To be different. But different is good.” — Serena Williams

Seven

“If we make self-love or body acceptance conditional, the truth is, we will never be happy with ourselves. The reality is that our bodies are constantly changing, and they will never remain exactly the same. If we base our self-worth on something as ever-changing as our bodies, we will forever be on the emotional roller coaster of body obsession and shame.” — Chrissy King

This is probably one of my favorites in the bunch. We can’t make loving ourselves and our bodies something we will do when we lose the weight or get to our goal. We have to do it now. We have to learn to love ourselves now or nothing will ever change.

Eight

“You can’t hate yourself happy. You can’t criticize yourself thin. You can’t shame yourself worthy. Real change begins with self-love and self-care.” — Jessica Ortner

I hated myself for years and it got me no where. I’ve made so much more progress on my goals, both body and otherwise, in the few years since I started loving myself than I did in my entire life before then.

If T-Swift still deals with body image issues I guess the rest of us mortals don’t get a pass either. But doesn’t it make you feel better to know some one like Taylor has doubts just like you?

First of all, I think this one kind of speaks for itself. Why have we made it so political and brave to love ourselves? Second, if you haven’t listened to Lizzo’s music you need to to do it immediately. Her self-love and body confidence is infectious.

“I say I love myself, and they’re like, ‘oh my gosh’, she’s so brave. She’s so political. For what? All I said is ‘I love myself, bitch!'” — Lizzo

I imagine Meryl Streep saying this as her character in The Devil Wears Prada, but she’s not wrong. It’s amazing how much more time I have for the important things when I’m not always focused on weight and weight loss.

We have to start modeling body positivity to our children, boys and girls, if we want the world to be a better, less hateful place for them to grow up in.
